Fun line dance, great potential. I love contra line dances, always ends in smiles.
However, for this contra to work the first steps cannot be walking forward, because the outside circle will always be too close. I would try side step touch +clap own hands, then side step touch +clap partner hands, this way the side steps give the dancers a chance to move even if they are already close together. If they are far apart, then they can move closer together while doing the step touches. I like having them move apart after clapping hands, but three steps for each of them might be too much.
As you teach a line dance, and see the results in the class, it is good to adapt the steps for more success. The videos
