While she danced through her teens doing the jive, the twist, disco, etc. She has no formal dance training. She discovered “Latin” line dancing in 2005 but did not discover “modern” line dancing until 2013. Since there were no modern line dance classes in her area, she began her own classes with her co-instructor friend, Judy Martin.
She began writing easy social dances in 2014 for her classes and to teach at local workshops. She had no music or choreography training but enjoyed the process of writing a dance. In 2020, when Rob Fowler began a virtual choreography course, she jumped at the chance to learn and grow.
Elaine had two dances nominated for Crystal Boot Awards: Sundown Swing and Moving On Tango. She won the 2022 CBA Choreography Competition with Greener Grass.
Elaine Cook has choreographed 38 dances, of which 24 have been co-choreographed. Their first published stepsheet on CopperKnob is Get My Name from May 2014, with their most recent stepsheet of We Ain't Leaving in May 2024.
