Sometimes I wonder why it took me so long to actually admit to myself that dancing was so important to me… But now I have, and I want to make the most of it!
I started dancing back in 96 and took up teaching in 2000. My home base is my local club Love-to-Dance Denmark where I teach both social line dancing as well as dance techniques classes to competition dancers (I used to compete myself but retired in 2006). I also spend a considerable amount of time travelling all over Denmark doing: 1) line dance workshops, 2) dance technique classes, 3) and instructor training courses teaching other instructors how to teach technically correct.
I’ve been choreographing since 2002. I heard a great track on the radio and I instantly visualised certain steps and moves to the music. From then on I didn’t look back. I try to reach out to as many dancers as possible choreographing to all levels and using all types of music styles. Important points for me when choreographing are: 1) musical interpretation, 2) body flow, 3) interesting/different steps, 4) level, 5) music vs. target group.
Niels Poulsen has choreographed 421 dances, of which 115 have been co-choreographed. Their first published stepsheet on CopperKnob is Listen from October 2007, with their most recent stepsheet of Still Holding On (CBA25) in Feburary 2025.
Additionally, Niels Poulsen had a CopperKnob no.1 dance in October 2024 with Made for Dancing, and has recently had 14 other dances in the top 10.
