Who would have believed that an evening class in line dancing at a local school in Toronto thirty years ago would have caused such a major life change, but it did so for me. From that first evening I was hooked and I have never looked back. An avid dancer from a young age, I delighted in this new form of dance and expanded my interest and love twenty five years ago to include choreography and instruction. Since that time I have written 167 dances, have been privileged to have many dances published and my dance ‘Clap Your Hands’ nominated for ‘Beginner Dance of the Year’ at the 2005 Dancers’ Choice Awards in Vegas.
I have been honoured to co-choreograph dances with many well known choreographers including Kim Ray, Simon Ward, Maddison Glover, Karl Harry Winson, Andrew & Sheila Palmer, Roy Verdonk, Guillaume Richard, Kate Sala, Robbie McGowan Hickie, Ira Weisburd, Jose Miguel Balloque Vane, Ria Vos, Dee Musk, Craig Bennett and Daniel Whittaker. Many of these, plus those written with Fred Buckley and my solo choreographies, have reached the top 10 on the Copperknob charts and quite a number went to Number 1.
Initially instruction was not on my agenda, but I was invited to teach my dances and have now taught at events across Canada, the US, the UK, Japan, France, Germany and Australia. It was an absolute thrill and incredible honour when I was awarded the Dancers' Choice Award for Female Instructor of the Year 2006, which was presented at the Vegas Dance Explosion, and nominated again for the same award in 2007. I was greatly touched that so many dancers nominated and voted for me and very much appreciated their support. My aim with my instruction is to try to ensure that all of the dancers in my classes gain confidence in their ability to learn and that the process is fun. I want them all to leave my class with smiles on their faces.
Vivienne Scott has choreographed 167 dances, of which 51 have been co-choreographed. Their first published stepsheet on CopperKnob is Link Up from October 2007, with their most recent stepsheet of All I Ever Do in May 2024.
